1.0	Apocalypse BOT Manual
================================================================================
1.1	Introduction:
----------------------------------
This is a modification for Hexen II that allows you to include simulated players (commonly known as bots) in multiplayer deathmatch games. This manual assumes that the reader has knowledge of what deathmatch is and how to start such a game. It is recommended that the reader first refers to the Hexen II manual and online documentation for more information.

These bots or artificially intelligent players try to behave like real players, performing their actions such as collecting and using items, exploring their environment, and flee, pursue and engage enemies in combat. The Apocalypse Bot is not created to perform beyond the normal physical capabilities of the players, but to perform within it.

Please note that because this is an early release, not all the features (such as item usage) are fully implemented yet nor may it accurately reflect the final version. Be sure to check the above website for the latest release from the project.

1.2	System Requirements:
----------------------------------
Full version of Hexen II patched to version 1.11

1.3	Installation:
----------------------------------
The instructions below are broken into logical steps. Follow the steps in numerical order, unless a step tells you otherwwise. The examples included I the steps are assuming that 'c:/games/hexenII' is where Hexen II is installed.

Step	Instruction
1	Delete or rename the sub-directory 'apocbot' if it exists in your
Hexen II directory. If this is the first time that you're installing the
Apocalypse BOT then this directory shouldn't already exist.

2	Unzip the contents of 'apocbot_0.2.0.zip' to your Hexen II directory.
For example, we unzip the zip file to 'c:/games/hexenII'

3	Make sure the files listed below are in the sub-directory called
'apocbot' in the Hexen II directory.
For example, we make sure that the below files have been placed in
	'c:/games/hexenII/apocbot'.

	progs.dat
	manual.txt
	autoexec.cfg
	apocrun.bat

4	Open 'apocrun.bat' for editing, which can be found in the 'apocbot'
sub-directory of the Hexen II directory. Edit the second line so that it
will run Hexen II as desired. Please note that the commands '-listen'
and '-game apocbot' on the second line are required in order to use the
	Apocalypse Bots.

1.4	Using the Apocalypse Bots:
----------------------------------
To run the Apocalypse Bots, execute 'apocrun.bat' installed in the 'apocbot' sub-directory of the Hexen II directory and start a deathmatch game as normal.

While in a deathmatch game, as the server, you can press escape to bring up the Hexen II main menu. Select 'Options' and then select 'Goto Console'. Use the following commands to add/remove bots from your game.

Command:	Description:
apoc_add	Add a bot to the game if there are any free client slots
apoc_kill	Remove a bot from the game
apoc_add_max	Fill all the available client slots in the game with bots
apoc_kill_all	Remove all bots from the game

These following commands take effect as soon as the next game/level begins:

Command:	Description:
skill x Where 'x' represents a number from 0 to 3. This	specifies the
skill level that the bots will use.
temp1 x Where 'x' specifies how many bots should automatically attempt
to enter at the start of the next game. The maximum is 15.

Known Limitations:
------------------
*	The colours don't show up on the bots' model

Questions:
------------------
Q	How many Bots can I have in one game?
A	In the '-listen X' or '-dedicated X' command line arguments, 'X'
specifies the maximum number of players (including bots) that can join
a game. Hexen II does not support more than 16 as an absolute maximum.

Q	Can I have a dedicated server running the Apocalypse Bots?
A	Yes. Change the '-listen' command for '-dedicated' in the command line.
Note that only the temp1 and skill commands work on the Apocalypse Bots on
	a dedicated server.

Q	What will happen when a real client (player) joins my game when it is
	currently filled with bots?
A	One of the bots will be removed.

Q	Can anyone else, apart from the server, add/remove bots?
A	For game fairness reasons, ONLY the first client to enter/start a game can
	use the add/remove bots.

Q	When the deathmatch level changes the bots don't get carried over.
A	Use Temp1 to specify how many bots try to join in at the start of each
deathmatch game. Refer to section 1.4 for more information. This doesn't
completely solve the problem, but it isn't going to get much better.

Q	I think I've found a flaw or have a suggestion for the Apocalypse Bot!
A	If it isn't already listed then please contact the author. The email
address can be found at the top of this document.
